Homes in the Past

18th Sep 2025
The boys have been interested in the differences between past and modern appliances in homes. We've examined images of the open fires within traditional Irish farmhouses, the crane holding the old style kettle being heated by the open fire. Washing clothes was not as easy as throwing garments into the washing machine and then transferring them into the tumble dryer. The boys realise the hard work undertaken by people using elbow grease and the wash board. The wringer was an important tool to remove the excess water after washing.
